Frequently asked questions

Please see our frequently asked questions below. If your question is not listed, please contact us.

General
Can I bring my car to the campsite?

The campsite is car-free. Loading and unloading is no problem. The rest of the time, your car must be parked in the car park. This is located near the entrance and reception. In high season, there may not be enough space in the car park at the campsite itself, in which case we ask you to park at p2. This is about a 5-minute walk from the campsite.

Motorhomes and cars with roof tents are, of course, allowed to park on a camping pitch.

How many amps do the electrical connections at the campsite provide?

Camping pitches have 10 amp electricity. You will need a camping plug (CEE, also available for purchase at reception).

Can my dog come along?

Pets are welcome at Buitenland. They must be kept on a leash on the premises, and it is best to walk them outside the campsite, armed with poop bags! Please note that dogs are not allowed at the swimming lake. When booking, you can indicate that you will be bringing your dog or cat!

May I light a fire near my tent?

Yes, you may, in a fire pit and with dry wood. If there is a fire ban in effect, we will comply with it. You may bring a fire pit and wood from home, but we also have them available at reception (for a fee). The forest ranger does not allow wood to be taken from the forest!

How long does the camping season last?

The camping season runs until the autumn holidays, which is until 3 November. If you are in the area during the winter and would like to stay for a night, please call or email us.

What is the difference between high season and low season?

During weekends and holidays, the bar is open and we organise plenty of activities. The same applies to Easter, Ascension Day and Pentecost. That is why it will be busier and you will pay more for your camping spot.

During the week, Buitenland is a place to relax. To light a fire and finally finish reading that book. During the low season, we are sometimes still doing odd jobs at the campsite - please let us know if we are disturbing you, and we will be happy to adjust our activities.

Can we celebrate Ascension Day and/or Pentecost abroad?

Absolutely! During Ascension Day and Pentecost, we are OPEN. Expect fun, conviviality, hustle and bustle, and parties. Our programme offers plenty to do for young and old alike. We try to take the flow of the weekend into account, which is why it's best if everyone stays for the whole weekend. For this reason, we have a fixed price during Ascension Day and Pentecost. There are no check-out times, but if you leave early, we unfortunately cannot give you a refund. Would you like to sample the atmosphere for one night? Then you can call us during the weekend. Only then can we tell you if there is still room for you.

We do not accept group bookings during Ascension Day and Pentecost. Everyone must therefore book separately. If you are as flexible as we are, you will certainly be able to stay together. It is a good idea to bring an extension cord!

Can I leave my tent up between two weekends of camping?

Please contact reception. We will then see what we can do for you.

Can we get married/have a party abroad?

We love parties! But we believe that our parties should be accessible to everyone. For this reason, you cannot celebrate a party or wedding at Buitenland, nor can you hire the campsite.

Are there check-in times?

During high season, you are welcome to arrive from 2 p.m. onwards. Reception is open until 5 p.m. (on Mondays and Fridays until 8 p.m.). It would be helpful if you could let us know in advance if you will be arriving later, but if no one is at reception, we will always leave a telephone number on the door that you can call!

During the low season, we are more flexible and do not mind if you wish to arrive earlier or depart later.

What is the minimum number of nights I have to book?

During the busiest weeks of the summer holidays, you can only book on a weekly basis, with Friday as the arrival day. This means we only have one crazy day a week! The rest of the season, you can come and go as you please.

Would you like to come during the summer holidays, but not for a whole week? Please call or email us a few days in advance, as we always keep a few spots free for last-minute bookings (but first come, first served).

Do you also rent out bicycles?

We do not rent out bicycles ourselves, but we are happy to refer people to Gelissen Tweewielers in Schoonebeek. It is advisable to contact them at least two days in advance.

Is there a campsite shop on the premises?

You can buy some essential items and nice souvenirs at reception, but no food. There are several supermarkets in Nieuw Amsterdam (about three kilometres away). We sell sandwiches in the bar in the morning.

Is the swimming lake safe?

Yes. Swimming is, of course, at your own risk and it is wise to do so under supervision. The swimming lake is owned by the local council. The water is clean and there is no blue-green algae. It has a shallow and a deep section.

I want to sit next to my friends. How can we arrange that?

NEW: When booking, you can choose your spot on the map yourself. This makes it very easy to book spots next to each other.

I want a spot close to a toilet / far away from the bar / in the morning sun?

NEW: When booking, you can choose your own spot on the map. Everything is within walking distance and each field has its own charm.

Do you also have seasonal pitches?

Yes, we do. However, we are not issuing any new spots for the time being. If you would like to be placed on the waiting list, please send us an email telling us a little about yourself, your motivation, and what type of camping equipment you would like to bring.

May we also come by for a day?

Absolutely. Visitors who are not staying overnight are welcome to visit free of charge. If you have guests staying overnight, please notify us by email or at reception. You will then be charged a guest fee and tourist tax.

Does it matter whether I have a tent, motorhome, caravan, car with a roof tent, or an igloo?

You reserve a spot with us and then you can decide for yourself what kind of camping equipment you want to bring. If you think it might be too crazy even for us, please contact us in advance.

What is the maximum size of my camping equipment?

We always try to make room for special and sometimes large camping equipment. Is your circus wagon longer than 6 metres or very heavy? Always check with reception to see if there is space available. During high season, always contact us before you leave home!

What time do we need to check out?

During peak season, your spot must be vacated by noon. During low season, you can take it as easy as you like.

Do I need to make a reservation?

If you want to be sure of a place, booking is recommended!

We can't come, what now?

We adhere to the RECRON terms and conditions, so cancellation is not free of charge. Before you book, consider taking out cancellation insurance!

Do you have a field for caravans?

For cyclists/hikers/train travellers with a small tent, we almost always have a Small Footprint spot available. These cannot be booked via the website, so please send us an email if you would like to make use of one.

May I build a cottage on a seasonal pitch?

No, that is not permitted. The seasonal pitches are only intended for cosy caravans, motorhomes, and tents. If you have something else in mind, please email us to find out what the options are!

Activities
May I build a cottage on a seasonal pitch?

Every weekend and during the summer holidays, we organise special, exciting and unique activities for young and old. Don't expect children's entertainment with bear costumes. To get an idea of what we do, take a look at our activities page. During the low season, you can always join in with yoga, book a massage or take part in the other activities we offer during the week. During the low season, bring along some games, a good book and your swimwear.

During the winter period, we do not organise any activities, and BuitenLand is a place to relax and enjoy nature. There is plenty to do in the area, and we are happy to give you tips!

Can I organise an activity?

We are open to fun things! You can contact us at podium@buitenland.com.

May we perform at the campsite?

We love spontaneous guitar strumming around the campfire and singing sessions in the shower. Would you like to perform on our stage? Send an email to: podium@buitenland.com.

Is there noise pollution?

Our unwritten rule is that it should be quiet on the premises after 11 p.m. Anyone who is not tired after that can go to the bar. At weekends, we often have bands playing on our stage, and then we sometimes deviate from these times because it is so nice to dance in the open air!
