(Swimming) lakes

Fancy a refreshing dip? In addition to the familiar Zandpol natural swimming pool, there are plenty of beautiful lakes in the area. From the tranquil Kibbelkoele to the blue Dankernsee just across the border and the Klinkenvlierseplas near Coevorden. Perfect for a summer's day.

De Zandpol natural swimming pool
From BuitenLand, you can always visit the neighbours: De Zandpol natural swimming pool, conveniently located nearby. However, if you fancy something different, you can also visit these swimming lakes for a refreshing dip.

De Kibbelkoele
De Kibbelkoele is a beautiful and clean lake in the middle of a nature reserve in Noord-Sleen. It is generally quieter than the Zandpol and the lake is also a lot bigger, with a fine sandy beach surrounding the entire lake. Also recommended if you want to go for a nice walk.

Dankernsee
Just across the border in Germany, you will find Dankernsee, a lake known for its crystal blue water. It is a beautiful area, but also quite touristy, so keep in mind that you will not be alone. There are plenty of activities to fill your day at Dankernsee: mini golf course, cinema, climbing park, water skiing, outdoor swimming pool.

The Klinkenvlierseplas
The Klinkenvlierseplas is located on the outskirts of Coevorden and, at 15 hectares, is a sizeable lake. A small part of the lake has a sandy beach, while the rest of the banks are grassy. A visit to this lake can easily be combined with a trip to Coevorden, a charming town that is well worth a visit. During the summer months, the Klinkenvlierseplas can get quite busy.

Would you prefer to stay close to home? Then check out the Ermerstand, where you can also go paddleboarding and water skiing, or the Rietplas near Emmen.
