Museums
There are several museums for young and old in the area. Below you will find a few great tips.
Ellert and Brammert
Just under half an hour from BuitenLand lies the open-air museum 'Ellert and Brammert'. Here, you are taken back in time. Various buildings show you how people used to live and dwell. There is a café, a petting zoo and a large playground.
Narrow Gauge Railway Museum
The Narrow Gauge Railway Museum in Erica showcases the history of peat extraction. You can take a small train past various national monuments and enjoy a fantastic trip through beautiful countryside. There is also plenty for children to do in this fun and cosy museum.
Van Gogh House
The Van Gogh House Drenthe is located a stone's throw from BuitenLand. The world-famous painter lived and worked here for a short time. During a guided tour, you will learn all about the story of van Gogh and his temporary life in Drenthe. There are also three cycle routes that tell you all about van Gogh's life and take you past all the special places and metre-high murals.
Prison Museum
At the Prison Museum in Veenhuizen, you can learn about crime and punishment in the past and present. A prison bus will take you on a tour of the unique village of Veenhuizen. You can also take a look inside a real prison.
Drents Museum
Prefer a day of art and culture? The Drents Museum in Assen, about a 40-minute drive away, has a wide variety of art, archaeology and history exhibitions.
