Most beautiful walking routes
Around Buitenland, you can discover everything from the Boomkroonpad and Poolshoogte to Van Gogh walking routes and the Pieterpad. Perfect for a walk, adventure and beautiful nature near the campsite.
Tree Crown Path
High up among the trees on the Hondsrug is the Tree Crown Path. A path 125 metres long. From the root tunnel, you walk between the treetops to a point 22 metres high. There is also a lovely nature playground, a small shop and a coffee bar. About a 30-minute drive away.
Poolshoogte
For beautiful walks and a magnificent observation tower with panoramic views, the Poolshoogte is highly recommended. It is part of the Odoorn forestry commission. The name comes from the forest ranger who used to use the observation tower to check for forest fires. There are several walking routes around the observation tower. There is also a gnome trail for the little ones. About a 25-minute drive.
Van Gogh walking routes
Follow in Van Gogh's footsteps and take one of the specially mapped out Van Gogh walking routes. One of the four official Van Gogh walking routes in Drenthe starts and ends in Veenoord, just around the corner. During the walk, you will discover why van Gogh loved Drenthe so much. The other three walking routes also start in the vicinity of the campsite.
Did you know that the Pieterpad runs right behind the campsite? The 21-kilometre stage from Sleen to Coevorden passes through Dalerveen, a village just three kilometres from the campsite. This makes Buitenland a great place to spend the night and let your blisters dry out. Even if you just want to take a break, you are more than welcome to enjoy a nice cold beer on our cosy terrace.
