Het Slakkenhuis

As its name suggests, the Slakkenhuis (Snail House) is inspired by a snail's shell. The spiral shape of the design can be found everywhere in nature — in shells, flowers and even in mathematics, such as the Fibonacci sequence or the golden ratio.

This golden ratio was used centuries ago in art and architecture, and can also be found in the work of Leonardo da Vinci. His depiction of this mathematical harmony inspired the design of the Slakkenhuis living room: a space with eleven corners and a four-metre-high ceiling that opens onto a unique skylight.

A spacious deck seamlessly connects the living room to the garden, offering views of the fields. The large folding door connects the indoors and outdoors into one whole — in summer, you can open everything up and live outside, while in winter, you can retreat into your cosy shell. The spacious garden features a campfire spot, a dining table, a hammock, lounge chairs, and a luxury barbecue. Thanks to its location on the edge of the campsite, you can enjoy privacy and tranquillity — it really feels like you've gotten away from it all.

Inside, a wood-burning soapstone stove provides pleasant, even heat. Thanks to its natural insulation, the Slakkenhuis remains cosy in winter and wonderfully cool in summer.

The house sleeps four people: a large bedroom with a double bed, a small room with bunk beds (top bunk 90 cm, bottom bunk 120 cm) and two fold-out sofas in the living room for extra guests. The bathroom is surprisingly luxurious for a campsite, and the kitchen is fully equipped with a gas hob, spacious fridge with freezer compartment, gas oven and plenty of storage space.
